Memorial Day Parade

We decided to take advantage of living in the Nation's Capital yesterday, and biked over to Constitution Ave. to watch a bit of the National Memorial Day Parade.  We were surprised to find out that the parade has only been going on since 2005.  Apparently, it was started because Memorial Day parades were slowly fading away across America.  Here are some photos we took while watching yesterday...
George.
RGIII.
We also caught a ceremony at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial honoring women in the Military.

I suddenly feel the urge to break into a powerful rendition of God Bless America...thank goodness (for you) this isn't a live feed.

Happy Memorial Day!

Hope everyone is enjoying their day off and remembering those who allow us to sit back and relax on days such as this.

Aspiring Writers

One of the best parts about teaching 1st grade is when you get to laugh at, err, read their inspiring stories. This past week, I sat down to do just that.  I thought I'd share their comedic innocence with all of you...
Super!  I've been looking everywhere for this How-To book!
Interesting.  This reminds me of my favorite season:  winter, spring, summer and fall.
Thank GOD I read this before Wes and I decide to travel to Jamaica.  Now we know to get our Eye Surgery vaccinations before the trip.
Clearly this child is confusing book introductions with a rousing game of charades.

Hope you enjoyed these as much as me!

We're Back!

We lost our internet connection this past week, but we're back in action now, so we have some catching up to do!

Last weekend we happily traveled home for the Danc'letics recitals!  Here we are at BWI airport excited to see our family in just a few hours.  Don't our smiles look more alive?! :)
In between shows we have a lovely picnic lunch.  Here we are in our super awesome red t-shirts...
On Saturday evening we all gathered back at the Juliano's for a delicious cookout.  I didn't take many pictures (probably because I was too busy stuffing my face with appetizers), but here's one for keeps...
It was yet another wonderful weekend with family, and a lot of excited little dancers!  Can't wait for next year!

Teamwork!

Just as an author needs an illustrator, so does a teacher who's drawing abilities rival that of a 4 year old. That's where Wes comes in!  He is my live-in illustrator.  I often need to make models of activities that I want the kids to do and so, I write; he draws.  We're quite the team.  Check out his most recent masterpieces based on the story Silly Tilly.
p.s. This is a fantastically silly book with rhyming words, lovable characters and an important author's message.  Highly recommended!
I love the shades the goose is wearing in the bottom picture.  It's all good in this goose's hood.

Summer Beer Alert!

The kids are off their rockers this week, so I opted for a head clearing bike ride and a much needed adult beverage, after work today.  To my delight, I discovered my new favorite summer cerveza!  It's called Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy. The waiter described it as a lemon infused hefeweizen; I've settled on heaven in a glass.

A Dose of Cuteness

This past Saturday, we took a quick trip up to Maryland for a yummy brunch, followed by a filling lunch and most importantly, to see some of our favorite people and one special little guy.  Meet Ryan...
I can't even with that little mouth.  Snug as a bug in a rug.
Why hello there handsome!
Here's the deal:  Megan (Ryan's proud mommy, also far left) lives in Maryland, with Dave (Ryan's look-alike and dad, who's not pictured).  Dave is Brit's (striped shirt) older brother, which makes Megan, Brit's sister-in-law.  But wait - Joanne (black shirt) is married to Brit's other older brother, Ben (also not pictured), so that makes her Megan, Dave and Brit's sister-in-law.  Brit has another brother and sister (also not pictured), but I'm not married to either of them (shout out to Wes!).
Annnnnyway, we love our friends and were so happy to spend a few hours with them!
xoooo

Happy Monday!

Cleaning out old phone photos and found these delicious cappuccino shots from over a year ago!
Stay tuned tomorrow, for a post about our lovely weekend.
Cheers!

Yoga on the Mall!

This past Sunday was the conclusion of DC Yoga Week, which meant Yoga on the Mall!  It was a giant outdoor yoga class for the entire community - over 1,000 yogis from all over this lovely area, were in attendance.  It was a blast, especially when they started playing MJ during the practice!
Can you spot us??
We had to pair up with a stranger and do some partner work...

Check out my bendy husband.
It was a bit of a chilly start, but after physically warming up, the sun's warmth felt amazing!
Although I look like I'm trying really hard to relax, I swear I really was completely at ease. :)
It was one of those absolutely beautiful days - mentally and physically!
Namaste friends!
