Wegmans Strikes Again!

While at Wegmans picking up some groceries last night, what do we discover?  LIVE MUSIC!  Seriously, does it get any better than a $6 meal, a talented guitarist playing some of the classics (Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here"...so good), warm weather and good company?? *sigh*

Redundant Odonym's

1st Avenue and 1st Street - the nexus of the universe?
In a Seinfeld episode titled "The Maid," Kramer makes a panicked phone call to Jerry when he finds himself, quite literally, at a crossroads.  "1st and 1st - how can a street intersect itself? I must be at the nexus of the universe."

We've recently discovered this anomaly to be true, while navigating our way around Northern Virginia.  Not only do multiple streets carry the same name, but if you stay on one road long enough, it will eventually have 3 new names!

Take for example:
  • Lee Highway & Lee Jackson Memorial Highway:  Two main routes that happen to intersect with each other.  And pay attention, because Lee Highway will change it's name to Fairfax Blvd. while in the city of Fairfax, but then back to Lee Highway once outside.  The same can be said for Lee Jackson Memorial Highway - apparently it's Main Street in Fairfax and then switches to the Little River Turnpike, once past the city.  Plus, you can't even rely on the Rt. numbers because those change, too!
  • Springvale/Baron Cameron/Elden St/Centerville Rd/Walney Rd/Westfields Blvd./Poplar Tree Rd/Stone Rd - which is one length of road with different route numbers, therefore the names must change, of course!  If that wasn't confusing enough, there is another Poplar Tree Rd. less than a quarter mile away from the one previously mentioned, with absolutely no relation.
  • Aline Ave/Old Courthouse Rd/Gosnell Rd/West Park Dr./Galleria Dr - total length of the road is just over 3.5 miles, yet because it curves in a semi-circle, they felt the need to rename the road at each bend!
It's safe to say that one day of driving in Northern Virginia can leave you feeling like this...

McMansions

Before we get ahead of ourselves, here's a glimpse into what we call our "McMansion."  Wes' aunt has been gracious enough to let us stay with her and her awesome family in their beautiful home, while we search for our apartment.  Stay tuned over the next month for some funny posts about our roommates - one of which is convinced he's a superhero (and no, it's not Wes).

This is Wes waving to a neighbor as he grabs the mail, pretending that he actually owns the McMansion.  Keep dreaming buddy.
View from the top!  There are two separate ways to get downstairs - one of which is pictured above and the other a standard, straight staircase.  Both are a fairly equal distance from our bedroom and leave you out on either side of the living room, give or take.  We tend to change up our exit strategies each day.  Which one would you use?
Here's our cozy bedroom.  Fun fact:  the large decorative pillows weigh over 10lbs. each. No joke.  They're like beanbag-ish pillows.  You could knock someone out with one swing.

Fingers Crossed

In the spirit of thinking positive (shout our to our good friend Dena!) below is a sneak peak at what will hopefully be our new home, very soon!

SENSE-ible Wine

Look at the fun wine cork that popped up!

For those who didn't eat their carrots:
It is said that a toast is made to complete the cycle of the five senses:  sight, smell, taste, touch and the sound of wine glasses.
(Wine:  Bodegas Molino Malbec from Argentina)
What we learned today:  We may have found an apartment!!

All Before 9 a.m..

7:30 a.m.:  After Wes' morning run in Arlington and realizing that his work clothes were still hanging on the bedroom door (about an hour away), it was decided that running to Target (about 10 minutes away) was the only option.
7:45 a.m.:  Jaime and Wes arrive at Target, only to wait in the car until the 8:00 opening.
8:00 a.m.:  Jaime and Wes stood outside of Target's locked doors...still waiting...
8:06 a.m. =  8 a.m. "Virginia standard time"  Jaime and Wes entered Target.

8:07 a.m.:  While Wes shopped for his fashionable Target attire, Jaime had an issue in the Electronics Department.  While the Target employees were in their morning circle meeting discussing happy Target moments (literally), she attempts to get an employee's (any employee) attention in order to get a locked up item off the display rack.  In a failed attempt, Jaime took matters into her own hands (see above evidence).

8:20 a.m.:  Back in the car and on the road...for a minute, maybe two...
8:24 a.m.:  Wes and Jaime were stopped by this guy...look closely folks, he's not a crossing guard.  ...even though he directed us to the side of the road by walking out into the middle of the street with laser gun in hand.
8:46 a.m.:  Wes modeled not only his fashionable Target attire,  but also his  brand spanking new ticket.
It's official, he's a multi-state offender.

What we learned today:
  • Target in Virginia is more of a "bizzaro-target". However, their menswear is quit comfortable.
  •  Wes' reputation precedes him in the world of traffic enforcement.
